About This Site
Backtesting.cfd is a knowledge base about manual backtesting — testing trading strategies by replaying historical markets and trading them as if live — written specifically for retail CFD and forex traders.
Why it exists
Most backtesting content stops at the mechanics: pick a chart, replay it, log your trades. The parts that decide whether your results survive contact with a live account — spread and swap costs, tick-level data quality, broker server-time quirks, statistical sample size — are mentioned in passing or skipped entirely. We built this site to cover exactly those parts, with worked numbers.
How we work
- We cite sources. Claims about platforms, costs, and data link to documentation, vendor pages, studies, or community threads — so you can verify.
- We name what tools don't do. Every tool review lists limitations alongside features, including the tools we recommend.
- "Free" gets verified. Many "free backtesting" tools are free-trial funnels. We test what the free tier actually includes before calling anything free.
- Pages are updated. Each guide carries its last-updated date; pricing and feature claims are re-checked when we revise.
Disclosure
This site is maintained by the team behind StrategyTune, a free browser-based tick-replay backtester. We recommend it where it genuinely fits — and we state plainly what it does not do (it doesn't model swap/financing or commissions, for example). Reviews of other tools are kept factual, and several of them are excellent choices for needs StrategyTune doesn't cover.
